There is a particular kind of light in Alexandra Conunova’s playing. Critics have tried to name it in different ways: “a talisman of light”; “warm-toned, easy fluidity, subtle spontaneity, natural shaping”; “an impressive range of color.” But what they are all responding to is the same rare quality: a sound that feels both disciplined and free, luminous and exact, refined without ever becoming polished into anonymity.

Conunova is an artist of instinct, intelligence and fire. Trained in the European violin tradition and tested in its most demanding arenas, she won First Prize at the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Hannover, and is a prizewinner of the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Singapore International Violin Competition. She is also a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellow.

Her career has never followed a narrow path. She is equally compelling as a soloist with major symphonic orchestras and as a leader from the violin, where her performances of Vivaldi and Piazzolla’s Seasons have become a defining part of her artistic identity. First heard at the Tivoli Festival and soon after reprised by the Copenhagen Philharmonic, these projects reveal what makes her different: intensity without exaggeration, freedom without loss of form, and a way of communicating that feels immediate, physical and deeply human.

She has appeared with leading orchestras including the London Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Mariinsky Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra or Barcelona Symphony, collaborating with conductors such as C. Macelaru, G. Noseda, A. Manze, Y. Sado, L. Foster, J-P. Saraste, T. Currentzis, L. Langree, A. Poga, D. Raiskin, J. Weilerstein, M. Pletnev, L. Equilbey , A. Manacorda, M. Brabbins, C. Zacharias, D. Hindoyan, J. Nott, P. Bleuse, D. Ward, G. Takacs-Nagy, G. Bebeselea, O. Lyniv and J. Mallwitz.

‍The 2026/27 season marks a major expansion of her international presence.

Conunova makes important debuts with the Cincinnati Symphony, Orchestre National de France, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, New Japan Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, Stuttgart Philharmonic , Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie and Slovenian Philharmonic, alongside first appearances with the orchestras of Galicia, Bilbao, Navarra and Valencia, the RTV Slovenian Radio Symphony and Filharmonia Szczecin, including the recording of Karłowicz Violin Concerto in A major, Op. 8. 

She returns to the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Nuremberg Symphony and Kristiansand Symphony, and tours with the Copenhagen Philharmonic, Athens State Symphony and Orchestra della Toscana. In recital, she appears with Christian Zacharias and Eva Gevorgyan, and is featured artist of the Setembre Musical festival.

Her recordings on Aparté have confirmed the same artistic profile: bold, vivid, personal. Gramophone described her Prokofiev Sonatas with Michail Liftis as the work of “a major artist — in terms of both technical assurance and interpretative daring,” and praised her Vivaldi Four Seasons as “ravishingly sweet-toned… exquisitely light and graceful.”

Alexandra Conunova plays a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, Turin c.1785, ex-“Ida Levin”, generously lent by a private patron — an instrument whose warmth has become inseparable from her voice.
